Frequently asked questions

Chinese reading — your questions answered

Do you support Simplified and Traditional Chinese?

Yes. Nihao Story supports Traditional and Simplified Chinese. Stories show characters with pinyin and audio, so your family can bring Chinese into bedtime with more confidence.

Do you include pinyin?

Yes. Chinese rows show pinyin with audio support so you and your child can follow along, even when reading characters still feels new.

Is this for parents who grew up with Chinese but cannot confidently read it?

Yes. If Mandarin or Cantonese is part of your family, but reading characters feels hard, Nihao Story gives you a gentle way in. Audio, pronunciation support, and English help you read together without needing to be fluent.

What ages is this designed for?

Nihao Story is designed for children ages 0–10. Stories are sorted by reading level, from picture books for toddlers to longer stories for older kids.

What do Levels 1, 2, and 3 mean?

Story levels help you choose the right reading fit for your child. Level 1: Bilingual Foundations, ages 0-2, uses picture-heavy stories, minimal text, basic vocabulary, and familiar routines. Level 2: Bilingual Concept Building, ages 2-4, adds simple sentences, predictable repetition, and basic beginning-middle-end stories. Level 3: Early Bilingual Reading, ages 4-6, uses more balanced text and pictures, simple storylines, early sight words, and 3-8 lines per page.

Can my child learn to read characters, not just hear them?

Yes. Every Chinese story shows characters alongside pinyin, with audio available for pronunciation. Over time, children can start recognizing characters through stories they want to revisit — no flashcards needed.

How is this different from a Chinese tutor or class?

Nihao Story is designed for daily reading at home: 10 cozy minutes at bedtime. It can support classes, grandparents, and conversation by making Chinese easier to bring into family routines.
